R. G. LeTourneau Heavy Equipment
The Electric-Drive Era 1953-1971 by Eric Orlemann
In the history of heavy equipment development, no single man's name is more respected than that of R. G. LeTourneau. Robert Gilmour LeTourneau is considered by many to be the dean of high-speed mobile earthmoving equipment. His designs of the 1920s, 30s, and 40s laid the fundamental groundwork for many of the earthmoving machines we see today. Self-propelled, rubber tired scrapers, bulldozing blades, and rippers were all conceived under his engineering genius in the quest for moving material at the lowest-cost-per-yard. This book covers up until the sale of the company to Marathon in 1971. Standard production, specials, and experimental machines are shown in rare archival images, some being shown in print for the very first time, help showcase what made R. G. LeTourneau so important in the heavy equipment industry.

Bucyrus: Making the Earth Move
Bucyrus International Inc., formerly Bucyrus-Erie Company, celebrates 125 years of building heavy excavating machinery, including the largest earthmovers ever to roam the planet. Founded in 1880 by Daniel P. Eells and a group of business associates, the company built a diverse range of machines and grew to become the leading supplier of walking draglines, shovels, and drills to the surface mining industry. With its acquired companies, such as Marion Power Shovel and Ransomes & Rapier, Bucyrus built the entire roster of giant stripping shovels in the western world, and the record-breaking "Big Muskie" walking dragline. Over 90 percent of the giant walking draglines working today have been built by the Bucyrus companies.
